Dhaka, Oct 24 (V7N) – The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Intelligence Branch (DB) has arrested Yeaz Al Riad, former General Secretary of the Bangabandhu Hall Branch of Dhaka University's Chhatra League and current Vice President of the Central Chhatra League. The arrest comes just hours after the Ministry of Home Affairs announced a ban on the Bangladesh Chhatra League on Wednesday night.

DB confirmed the arrest to the media, making Yeaz Al Riad the first senior leader of the Chhatra League to be detained following the government’s decision to ban the organization. The reasons behind the arrest have yet to be disclosed, but it is seen as a direct consequence of the crackdown on the organization, which the interim government accused of being involved in a range of criminal activities, including violence and corruption.

The ban, issued under the Anti-Terrorism Act, 2009, was enacted following years of controversy surrounding the Chhatra League’s alleged involvement in public security issues, including murder, extortion, and harassment. With the ban in place, law enforcement agencies are expected to take further action against the organization’s leadership and its activities.

Yeaz Al Riad's arrest marks the beginning of what could be a series of detentions as the government moves to enforce the ban and maintain public order in the aftermath of the decision.
