During his tribute, Fakhrul highlighted Sabihuddin’s dedication to the nation and recalled his deep commitment while working closely with BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia. "Sabih dedicated himself to the country and its people in every role he held," said Fakhrul, underscoring the determination Sabih showed throughout his career, which included his work in student politics and later, government service. Although Sabih’s responsibilities kept him from fully engaging in politics early on, his vision of societal transformation remained constant.
Fakhrul noted that Sabihuddin faced severe persecution under Sheikh Hasina’s government. “He endured brutal attacks during that time...Riaz Rahman was shot, Sabihuddin’s car was torched, and another person was assaulted.” Reflecting on their bond, he added, “He was like a brother to me, showing boundless energy and unyielding resolve in every challenge.”
The memorial meeting, held by Sabihuddin’s family at the BRAC Center in Mohakhali, drew notable attendees, including Senior Editor Shafik Rehman, BNP Standing Committee member Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury, Vice Chairman Abdul Awal Mintu, and Jatiya Party Senior Co-Chairman Anisul Islam Mahmud, alongside retired diplomats, bankers, and economists.
Sabihuddin Ahmed passed away at 76 while receiving treatment at United Hospital in Gulshan in 2022. Throughout his career, he served as private secretary to Prime Minister Khaleda Zia in 1991 and as secretary of the environment ministry in 2001, later representing Bangladesh as high commissioner to the UK. Following his retirement, he became active in BNP politics and served on the Chairperson’s Advisory Council until his death.
