Dhaka, Nov 03 (V7N)- BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Sunday emphasized the importance of public vigilance to prevent the resurgence of fascist forces in Bangladesh. Speaking at a program marking Dr. Shahadat Hossain’s recent assumption of office as Mayor of Chattogram City Corporation (CCC), Fakhrul accused the ruling Awami League of seizing the electoral outcome and reiterated the need for an unwavering public resistance to eradicate such threats permanently.
Fakhrul thanked the judiciary for its "fair judgment" in declaring Dr. Shahadat as the elected mayor and acknowledged the interim government’s role in facilitating his oath-taking ceremony following the court's decision. Reflecting on recent events, he said, "The fascists were overthrown through a people's movement, and to prevent their return, we must secure a lasting resistance."
Looking forward to a fair election process, Fakhrul expressed his hope for transparency and justice, stressing the importance of democratic integrity.
After formally taking office, Mayor Dr. Shahadat Hossain reaffirmed his commitment to advancing the vision of BNP leaders Tarique Rahman and Khaleda Zia by transforming CCC into a "Green and Clean Chattogram City Corporation." He stated, "If Chattogram prospers, Bangladesh will prosper."
Several prominent BNP leaders, including Standing Committee Member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, Vice Chairman Barkat Ullah Bulu, and Joint Secretary General Habibun Nabi Khan Sohel, attended the event, along with BNP members from Chattogram’s metropolitan and divisional units.
