Dr. Abdul Moyeen Khan, top BNP leader, issued a warning on Wednesday January 03, saying the Awami League would no longer be able to hang onto power by manipulating elections.

In addition, he said that the government's suppression of the BNP's nonviolent demonstration on October 28 had destroyed democracy in Bangladesh in an interview with reporters while handing out leaflets in front of the Jatiya Press Club.

"People ask me what I plan to do following the election on January 7th. I want to be very clear: 2024 is not the same as 2014, and this government needs to recognise that. The BNP leader declared, "This time, they (the government) won't confirm the power for five years again by holding a phoney and symbolic election."

Stating that the people of Bangladesh sacrificed their blood for independence and democracy, he said the BNP would bring back democracy for the country’s 18 crore people by facing bullets and sound grenades on the streets.’

A member of the BNP standing committee, Dr. Moyeen, claimed that the day the candidates submitted their candidature papers was already the day of the unfair election. "Who will represent which seats as MPs has already been decided by the government."

He claimed that the Awami League is proceeding with its intention to use fictitious election results to construct a one-party parliament and government. "They're holding a farce and a drama in the guise of an election...all of the well-known media outside of the nation is stating in one word that the election in Bangladesh is a farce because the current regime wants to use it as an excuse to stay in power."
According to the BNP head, their party hopes for a free and fair election to usher in a new government. The BNP opposes using sticks and oars to promote violence in politics. "We never hold the politics of weaponry or conflict to be real. We want the people of Bangladesh to restore democracy by bringing about change in this nation through a methodical, peaceful democratic movement.

To garner support for the BNP's appeal to boycott the January 7 election, Dr. Moyeen and the leaders and activists of Jatiyatabadi Krishak Dal handed out fliers to passersby.

Meanwhile, BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi also distributed leaflets at AGB Colony Bazar in the capital’s Motijheel area in the morning.
Talking to reporters there, Rizvi said Awami League is going to hold a unilateral election by force on January 7 to hang onto power.
"I want to ask the populace to reject this lopsided mock election. "On January 7, no one will visit the polls. We convey our animosity towards them (AL) for robbing us of our voting rights," he declared.
According to Rizvi, Sheikh Hasina's unlawful administration is using deceit to hold the election so that it can continue plundering and engaging in corruption.

Asifur Rahman Biplob, the leader of the Jubo Dal, as well as the officials and members of the BNP and its other affiliate bodies, also handed out pamphlets throughout the capital.
