Dhaka, Nov 08 (V7N) – Preparations for Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Chairperson and former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia to travel abroad for advanced medical treatment have been finalized. The visa process for her entourage, including the seven doctors on her medical team, has also been completed.

The 79-year-old Khaleda Zia, who suffers from multiple health issues including liver cirrhosis, heart disease, lung complications, arthritis, kidney issues, diabetes, and eye problems, has been under intensive care at Evercare Hospital in Dhaka. Her medical team, comprising specialists, has recommended advanced treatment abroad.

BNP Standing Committee member and former minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury confirmed that all necessary arrangements are in place for Khaleda Zia’s trip to London, scheduled for November 8, pending her physical condition. She will be transported in a specialized long-distance air ambulance. If there are issues with the availability of the air ambulance, the departure may be postponed by a day or two.

Khaleda Zia will be accompanied by a team of 16 people, including seven doctors, nurses, and assistants, according to Chowdhury. After her initial treatment in London, she may continue to a multi-disciplinary health center in the U.S. or Germany for a liver transplant, based on her doctors' recommendations. Chowdhury noted that several hospitals in London have been contacted to ensure the necessary facilities and care.

BNP Standing Committee member Salauddin Ahmed further explained that the air ambulance is fully equipped with medical support to provide comprehensive care during her journey.

Khaleda Zia’s impending trip highlights the seriousness of her health condition and her need for specialized treatment options unavailable in Bangladesh.
