Dhaka, Dec 12 (V7N)- BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has announced that BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman will return to Bangladesh once the legal complications surrounding his situation are resolved.

Speaking to reporters at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport upon returning from an 11-day visit to the United Kingdom, Mirza Fakhrul addressed various issues, including the BNP's stance on reforms and elections, and the current state of Bangladesh-India relations.

Clarifying BNP’s Position on Reforms and Elections

Mirza Fakhrul dismissed allegations by the interim government’s Information Advisor that political parties, including BNP, are trying to undermine the current government. He labeled such claims as "anti-political" and reiterated that BNP has been cooperating fully with the government.

Fakhrul emphasized that the BNP prioritizes both reforms and elections. “The party proposed reforms two years ago. Minimum reforms should be completed, followed by elections. The problems Bangladesh is facing cannot be resolved without an elected government,” he stated.

Tarique Rahman's Message to BNP Leaders

The BNP Secretary General mentioned that Tarique Rahman, currently residing in the UK, had urged party leaders and activists to exercise patience amidst ongoing challenges.

Bangladesh-India Relations

Addressing Bangladesh's relations with India, Mirza Fakhrul underscored the need for resolving bilateral issues through dialogue. "The crisis should be resolved through talks," he remarked, reiterating the importance of diplomatic solutions.

Mirza Fakhrul’s return and subsequent statements mark a reaffirmation of the BNP's ongoing commitment to reforms and political cooperation while navigating the challenges of the interim government period.
