Dhaka, Dec 12 (V7N)- The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has imposed a travel ban on five former members of parliament (MPs), along with their wives and children, over allegations of corruption. The decision was made during the first meeting chaired by the newly appointed ACC Chairman, Dr. Mohammad Abdul Momen.
Names on the Ban List
The banned individuals, all former members of the Awami League, include:
- Alauddin Ahmed Chowdhury Nasim – Former MP of Feni-1 constituency
- Nur Nabi Chowdhury Shaon – Former MP of Bhola-3 constituency
- Abu Zahir – Former MP of Habiganj-3 constituency
- HM Ibrahim – Former MP of Noakhali-1 constituency
- Nur Uddin Chowdhury Nayon – Former MP of Lakshmipur-2 constituency
Allegations
The ACC has accused the individuals of:
- Money laundering
- Abuse of power
- Embezzlement of public funds through project irregularities
- Amassing significant illegal wealth both domestically and internationally
Statement from ACC
Akhtarul Islam, the ACC’s public relations officer, confirmed the travel restrictions and stated that the move aims to prevent the accused from fleeing while investigations are underway.
