Dhaka, Dec 14 (V7N)-BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has pledged to establish a dignified and inclusive environment for persons with disabilities if his party assumes power in the future. Rahman made the commitment during a discussion with citizens with disabilities held on Martyred Intellectuals Day at Agargaon in the capital on Saturday afternoon.

Promises for Inclusive Development

Rahman outlined several measures aimed at improving the quality of life for disabled citizens. These include:

  • Establishing a dedicated directorate for disability-related affairs.
  • Ensuring equal opportunities in healthcare, education, and employment.
  • Increasing disability allowances and simplifying access to medical services, job placements, and transportation.
  • Enacting and implementing robust laws to safeguard civil rights and eliminate discrimination.

“We will ensure that no disabled person faces discrimination in the future Bangladesh,” Rahman stated, emphasizing BNP’s commitment to creating an inclusive society.

During the event, members of the disabled community shared their challenges and aspirations, highlighting barriers to accessibility, education, and employment. They urged policymakers to prioritize their rights and integrate them into mainstream development.

Speaking as a special guest, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir reaffirmed the party’s support for persons with disabilities. He pledged that a BNP-led government would address their needs comprehensively, paying special attention to policy reforms and resource allocation.
