The Bangladesh government's proposal to raise fuel and energy rates in March was criticized by BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi on Thursday, calling it "cruel" and "anti-people."

The government intends to raise fuel and energy costs in March, as many media outlets have reported. Such an anti-people and reprehensible decision may be made by the administration, which has unlawfully seized power, he added.

"There will be no mercy in this choice. The choice made just before Ramadan exacerbates the damage. With 80% of the population not seeing a boost in income, those with moderate and low salaries are already struggling. Many people are experiencing severe hardship, including starvation and malnourishment.

Rizvi has condemned the government's proposal to increase fuel and energy prices, stating that it would recklessly put people's lives at risk. He emphasizes that the rise in gasoline and electricity prices will have a detrimental domino effect on the public, causing severe damage to manufacturers, industry, and agriculture.

The BNP resolutely opposes the government's plan to increase fuel and energy rates. Rizvi has also warned that if the government proceeds with the proposal, the party will relentlessly launch protests.

Furthermore, Rizvi asserts that the country is rapidly becoming a hub for different languages and cultures, despite the current occupying authority's supposed appreciation for Bengali language and culture.

"In Bangladesh, the proof is everywhere. When you switch on the television these days, Hindi drama and Hindi movies are shown. The cinema theaters are showing Indian films. For what purpose are they there?"
Zainul Abedin Farroque, a member of the BNP chairperson's advisory council, was among those in attendance at the press event.
