Dhaka, Dec 18 (V7N)— Pro-Zubayr clerics have called for the banning of the Tablighi Jamaat’s Saadist group, accusing it of being a terrorist organisation. The demand was made by Maulana Mamunul Haque during a press briefing at the Home Ministry following a meeting with seven advisors, including Home Affairs Advisor Lt. Gen. (Retd.) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury.

Speaking at the briefing, Mamunul Haque stated, “Zubayr supporters do not seek chaos, but the Saadist group has incited violence, leading to casualties on our side. This is not a clash between two groups; this is terrorism. Those responsible for these murders must be arrested immediately.”

The cleric emphasised that the Ijtema of Zubayr supporters will proceed as planned, but ruled out any possibility of a parallel Ijtema for Saadist group followers.

In response to queries about the scheduled long march towards the Turag River in Tongi on Thursday, Mamunul said, “A senior scholars’ conference is ongoing in Kakrail. Decisions regarding the march will be announced after deliberations.”

The Home Affairs Advisor refrained from commenting on the matter but indicated that law enforcement agencies would act to ensure peace and order.

This development follows rising tensions within the Tablighi Jamaat, with the Zubayr and Saadist factions clashing over leadership and organisational control. Authorities remain on high alert to prevent any escalation of violence.
