Dhaka, Jan 08 (V7N) — BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Advocate Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has expressed strong criticism over the extension of Sheikh Hasina’s Indian visa, claiming it has not been well received by the people of Bangladesh. Speaking to reporters on Wednesday morning after meeting with the families of four victims of the July coup in Gandaria, Rizvi accused India of undermining Bangladesh's sovereignty and democratic values through this gesture.
"The people of Bangladesh feel undervalued and disrespected by this action," Rizvi remarked, highlighting the public’s disapproval of what he described as foreign interference in national matters.
He further alleged that the government has failed to meet public expectations, particularly by increasing the prices of essential goods in line with "international prescriptions." He accused the government of prioritising its own interests over the welfare of the people.
Referring to the education sector, Rizvi claimed that those close to Sheikh Hasina are benefiting from the printing business, calling recent comments by the education advisor on book distribution a means to shirk responsibility.
Additionally, Rizvi called for accountability for those who had "taken up arms against the people" and demanded that establishments named after Sheikh Hasina's associates be renamed in honour of the country's martyrs.
The remarks come amid heightened political tensions in the country, with opposition leaders continuing to criticise the government on various fronts.
