London, Jan 08 (V7N)— BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia has arrived in London for advanced medical treatment. She landed at Heathrow Airport at 2:58 PM Bangladesh time on Wednesday, where she was warmly welcomed by her eldest son and BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman, along with other family members.

After nearly seven years, Khaleda Zia and Tarique Rahman were reunited, embracing emotionally upon her arrival. Acting High Commissioner Hazrat Ali Khan also greeted Khaleda Zia with a floral tribute on behalf of the Bangladesh High Commission in the UK.

Heathrow Airport authorities extended VIP protocol to Khaleda Zia. Outside the airport, UK-based BNP leaders and activists gathered in large numbers to greet her with slogans and banners.

Khaleda Zia left her Gulshan residence in Dhaka on Tuesday evening, accompanied by a motorcade that drew thousands of supporters lining the streets to catch a glimpse of the BNP leader. She entered Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport through the hangar gate at 10:55 PM and departed on a Royal Air Ambulance at 11:46 PM.

Upon her arrival in London, she is expected to be taken directly to a medical facility for treatment. Tarique Rahman and his wife Zubaida Rahman will be accompanying her during her stay in the UK.

The visit comes as Khaleda Zia continues to face health challenges, prompting her family and party to seek specialized care abroad.
