Jhalokathi, Jan 11, (V7N) - Thirteen members of the 108-member Jatiya Nagarik Committee in Rajapur, Jhalokathi, have resigned, citing the inclusion of individuals affiliated with the ruling Awami League, Chhatra League, and their allied organizations.
The resignations were announced on Friday night (January 10) during a press briefing at the Rajapur Press Club. Anvir Mahim, the 53rd member of the committee, read a written resignation letter on behalf of the group.
In the letter, Mahim stated that the Jatiya Nagarik Committee for Rajapur Upazila had been formed on January 9 with 108 members. However, the committee included individuals aligned with the forces against the July Revolution, such as members of the Awami League and Chhatra League. Many committee members who are directly involved in the anti-discrimination movement were not consulted, and some general individuals with no interest in being part of the committee were added. This situation made active supporters of the July Revolution feel uncomfortable. As a result, the 13 members collectively decided to resign.
