Feni, Feb 03 (V7N)— Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has stated that holding elections without implementing minimum reforms would not be appropriate. He emphasized the need for a future government that ensures accountability from villages to cities, arguing that the people have been deprived for too long.
Dr. Shafiqur made these remarks on Monday while inspecting the Ballar Muk Dam on the banks of the Muhuri River in Feni's Parshuram, which was breached during the August floods. He demanded the construction of a permanent dam on the riverbanks to prevent future flooding.
"No country should put another in danger by cutting a river dam like this. There is no precedent for such actions," he said, referring to allegations that the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) illegally cut the Muhuri River dam during the floods, leading to severe inundation in several areas, including Feni.
Jamaat Assistant Secretary ATM Masum was present with him during the inspection.
