Dhaka, Feb 05 (V7N) — Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has stated that fascists may know history but fail to learn from it. He made these remarks at the unveiling ceremony of the July 2024 Revolution Martyrs' Memorial, organized by Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami at the National Press Club on Wednesday.

During his speech, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman emphasized the sacrifices made by the martyrs, stating, "We have visited the families of the martyrs to pay our respects and seek their blessings. They are fortunate, as their families gave their lives for the country."

He further alleged that all freedom seekers have faced oppression under what he described as a fascist government. The Jamaat Ameer highlighted that the newly unveiled memorial remains incomplete, but efforts will continue to fully honor the 24 Ghazis and martyrs.

"The martyrs of the 24th wanted a non-discriminatory, humane Bangladesh. In their memory, we must refrain from any actions that betray the spirit of the July Revolution," he asserted. He called upon the people to uphold this spirit to build a Bangladesh free from discrimination, corruption, and misrule.

Dr. Shafiqur Rahman also commented on media suppression, stating that journalists were not spared from fascist control. He mentioned that many were tortured under the guise of remand, while those who criticized the government from abroad saw their families harassed and imprisoned.

The event was attended by party leaders, activists, and supporters, reinforcing Jamaat-e-Islami’s commitment to continuing its political struggle in memory of those it considers martyrs of the July Revolution.
