Dhaka, Feb 16 (V7N) – Election Commissioner Md. Anwarul Islam Sarkar has revealed that the Election Commission (EC) is taking steps to amend the current law regarding the delimitation of constituencies in Bangladesh. According to Sarkar, the upcoming changes will be made with the aspirations of the people in mind.

Speaking to reporters at his office in the Election Building in Agargaon on Sunday afternoon, Md. Anwarul Islam Sarkar explained that the delimitation process is complex and requires careful consideration of several factors. He emphasized that any amendments to the existing law would be based on administrative management, development activities, population dynamics, and geographical conditions.

Sarkar stated that the Election Commission will work to ensure that the delimitation aligns with the realities on the ground and provides benefits to the people.

The Election Commissioner also reassured the public that the EC is fully committed to conducting the next national election efficiently and impartially. He emphasized that the Commission will instruct District Commissioners (DCs) to ensure that the elections are held smoothly and without any problems.

Sarkar expressed confidence that no bad examples would emerge this time, and that the upcoming election will be remembered as a positive event in Bangladesh's electoral history.

Regarding the appointment of non-partisan returning officers, Sarkar stated that the EC will decide whether a non-partisan deputy commissioner is necessary for any district after the election schedule is announced. He assured that the Commission will stick to its decision in this regard, ensuring the impartiality of the process.

On the topic of the potential cancellation of the Awami League's registration, Sarkar noted that it is too early to comment on this matter. He said, "We will have to wait a little longer. Time will tell what decision we are taking."

The comments from Md. Anwarul Islam Sarkar signal that the Election Commission is preparing for significant reforms to ensure that the upcoming elections are both fair and reflective of the people’s needs and expectations.
