Dhaka, Aug 16 (V7N) – BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has questioned the extortion allegations made against those who led the recent mass uprising, warning that it signals the return of Sheikh Hasina’s authoritarian practices.
He made the remarks on Saturday at a discussion and prayer meeting organized at the National Press Club to mark the anniversary of the July–August mass uprising and the fall of fascism.
Rizvi said, “Children, like abalone birds, came out on the streets in the July movement. We were liberated. Democracy was liberated. Yet today, those who led that movement are facing allegations of extortion—why? Is Sheikh Hasina being repeated again?”
The BNP leader further alleged that a new form of control was emerging in the name of religion. “People from an organization sit everywhere. The spirit of Sheikh Hasina has once again come to the country,” he remarked.
