Case History & Verdict
- The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) filed the case on December 9, 2007 at Tejgaon Police Station, alleging irregularities in awarding a gas exploration deal to Canadian company Niko Resources.
- The charge sheet was submitted on May 5, 2008, accusing 11 people, including Khaleda Zia.
- The case saw testimony from 39 witnesses, including the investigating officer, Canadian police officials Lloyd Schoep and Kevin Dugan.
- After hearing the defense arguments on February 13, the court set February 19 for the verdict.
Last year, on March 19, the court rejected a previous appeal for acquittal and ordered charges to be framed against eight of the accused. However, today's ruling fully acquits them from all charges.
This verdict marks a significant legal victory for Khaleda Zia and her associates, bringing an end to a case that has lasted for over 16 years.
