Dhaka, Feb 28 (V7N) – Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami organized a rally and protest march in Dhaka, demanding that the government take immediate steps to prevent the prices of essential commodities from rising during the holy month of Ramadan.
The event, led by the Dhaka Metropolitan South branch of Jamaat, took place in front of the National Mosque Baitul Mukarram after Friday prayers.
During the rally, Jamaat leaders expressed strong dissatisfaction with the interim government’s handling of commodity prices. They accused the government of failing to control inflation, which has severely impacted the affordability of daily essentials.
The protestors also called for the release of Jamaat leader ATM Azharul Islam, who is currently imprisoned for crimes against humanity.
Additionally, the leaders urged the government to take stronger actions to maintain law and order in the country, emphasizing the importance of keeping peace during the holy month. They also called for the closure of cinema halls and bars to preserve the sanctity of Ramadan.
The protest march began at Baitul Mukarram and moved through Kakrail before concluding at its original location.
