Dhaka, Mar 02 (V7N) – Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin emphasized the importance of peaceful and credible elections during his speech at a program held in Agargaon on National Voters' Day. He stated that even if elections are won through violence, it is ultimately harmful to both the country and the political party involved, and he expressed his hope that no party would resort to such tactics in the future.

CEC Nasir Uddin made this remark while discussing the role of political parties in maintaining order during elections. He stressed the need for political parties to control their leaders and activists to ensure a peaceful electoral process.

During the same event, National Voters' Day, the Election Commission released the final voter list, which now includes 123.732 million voters. Of these, 63.361 million are male voters, 63.369 million are female voters, and there are 994 transgender voters. The list also reflects the addition of 3.66 million new voters, with about 1.9 million deceased voters excluded. The overall voter growth rate has increased by 1.54% compared to last year.

Election Commissioners also spoke on the issue of fair elections:

  • Brigadier General (Retd) Abul Fazal Md. Sanaullah, Election Commissioner, called this Voters' Day the most significant in recent years. He highlighted that this was an opportunity to restore democracy and improve the electoral system in Bangladesh, with a focus on ensuring that fraudulent voting and violence do not take place.

  • Md. Anwarul Islam Sarkar, another Election Commissioner, acknowledged the challenges the Commission faces in holding elections that are perceived as fair and credible. He emphasized that everyone's cooperation is crucial for the success of the election process.

  • Begum Tahmida Ahmed, Election Commissioner, called for open elections, seeking the cooperation of the public to ensure a transparent electoral process.

  • Abdur Rahmanel Machud, another Election Commissioner, reiterated that fair elections are fundamental to reflecting the will of the people and ensuring a just democracy. He reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to conducting free and fair elections.

CEC Nasir Uddin concluded by reiterating that the current Election Commission is committed to holding impartial elections. However, he emphasized that political parties also need to act responsibly and avoid using vote terror to influence the outcome.
