Dhaka, Mar 28 (V7N) – The court has declared BNP candidate Ishraq Hossain the winner of the 2020 Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) election, following a case he filed alleging rigging and demanding a re-run of the results

Speaking at an Eid gift distribution event for rickshaw, van, and auto drivers on behalf of BNP’s acting chairman Tarique Rahman in Dhaka on Friday, Ishraq defended the court’s decision, saying:

"Some people think this verdict is wrong due to a lack of information. We got justice in the court. Those who believe this case was filed after August 5 are mistaken—this case was filed right after the city election."

Ishraq also criticized the portrayal of BNP leaders seeking justice, stating:

"Seeing BNP members seeking justice is being criminalized. After the anti-discrimination movement, I cannot be deprived of justice just because I am a BNP worker. This verdict is an example and should have come earlier."

Regarding his future role, Ishraq mentioned that he would only take responsibility as mayor if the party leadership approves it.

The ruling comes four years after the election, where Awami League candidate Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh was initially declared the winner. BNP had rejected the results, citing irregularities and electoral fraud.
