Dhaka, Mar 30 (V7N) – BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has described the chief advisor's recent visit to China as a positive step in diplomatic relations. He emphasized that maintaining ties with key regional players like China, India, Pakistan, and Myanmar is crucial for Bangladesh's geopolitical and strategic interests.
He made these remarks while speaking to journalists at the BNP Chairperson’s office in Gulshan on Sunday (March 30) afternoon.
While acknowledging the importance of diplomatic relations, BNP expressed disappointment over the chief advisor's stance on elections. Mirza Fakhrul criticized the tendency to postpone elections, saying, "There is no logical reason to delay the election in the name of reforms."
He warned that if the electoral process faces further complications, BNP might be forced to take to the streets again. He also hinted that if concerns about the government’s neutrality persist, the demand for a caretaker government could gain momentum before the polls.
Regarding BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia, Mirza Fakhrul stated that she may return to the country in mid-April.
The BNP leader also cautioned that postponing elections due to external influences, particularly from India, could worsen the political crisis. He reiterated that BNP’s demand for elections is not about grabbing power but ensuring the legitimacy of the people's mandate.
He alleged that a certain group is actively trying to diminish BNP’s popularity, but stressed that the party remains committed to democratic principles.
With rising tensions over the electoral roadmap, BNP’s latest stance signals that political unrest could escalate if the government fails to address concerns about timely and fair elections.
