Dhaka, Apr 14 (V7N) – BNP Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed has said that the Awami League "died in Dhaka during the July-August mass uprising" and was "buried in Delhi", marking what he described as the beginning of the fall of fascism in South Asia.

He made these remarks while addressing the Baisakhi cultural program organized by Bangladesh Nationalist Social and Cultural Organization (JASAS) at Batamul in Ramna on Monday, in celebration of Pahela Boishakh, the Bengali New Year.

Salahuddin claimed that the fall of authoritarianism will soon become a historic chapter in South Asia, brought about through the united participation of students, professionals, and the general public.

Referring to the traditions of the New Year celebration, he said, “The Baisakhi procession, fairs, and panta-ilish are integral parts of our culture. But the Awami League introduced the Mangal Shobhajatra to destroy these original practices.”

Emphasizing the cultural unity of the country, he added, “People of all castes and religions will celebrate our traditions together. Religious extremism has no place here. Those who destroy culture must be swept away.”

The program featured various performances celebrating Bengali heritage and was attended by JASAS leaders, BNP activists, and members of the public.
