Dhaka, May 30 (V7N) – BNP Standing Committee member Mirza Abbas has alleged that Chief Advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus is deliberately avoiding the electoral process, despite the government accusing BNP of obstructing the path to elections.

Speaking on Friday morning (May 30) after placing floral tributes at the grave of former President Ziaur Rahman on his 44th death anniversary, Abbas said,

“Everyone is blaming BNP for the lack of elections, but the reality is that the Chief Advisor himself has no interest in holding elections.”

He further criticized the current administration for relying on foreign individuals to implement reforms, only to now, according to him, backtrack on their commitment to a democratic process.

“They brought people from abroad to talk about reforms, but now they are the ones reluctant to hold elections,” Abbas added.

In his remarks, Abbas also took aim at recent statements by the head of the government, accusing the leadership of being inconsistent and misleading.

Earlier in the day, senior BNP leaders paid their respects at Ziaur Rahman’s grave, offering prayers and supplications for the party founder’s soul. The commemorative program was marked by a call for unity within the party and a renewed demand for restoration of democracy through free and fair elections.
