Chattogram, June 29 (V7N) — Ruhin Hossain Prince, the Central Coordinator of the Left Alliance and General Secretary of the Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB), has warned that if the government does not immediately cancel its decision to lease out Chattogram Port and allow transit corridors, a tougher nationwide movement will be launched after August 5.
“The government must make it clear—without a second’s delay—that it will not lease out the port. This is a matter of national sovereignty,” Prince said during a rally held in front of Jetty No. 4 at Chattogram Port on Saturday.
The rally marked the conclusion of a road march organized by the anti-imperialist platform ‘People Against Imperialism and for National Sovereignty’, a coalition of leftist parties and organizations. The campaign included roadside gatherings in Feni and Brahmanbaria as it made its way to Chattogram.
Prince emphasized that activities such as leasing key national infrastructure and opening corridors to foreign powers undermine the country's sovereignty and independence. “We are ready to escalate this movement if the government does not reverse these anti-national decisions,” he declared.
The Left Alliance has been vocally opposing recent government moves regarding foreign involvement in critical infrastructure projects, particularly those that involve strategic assets like seaports and transit routes.
The organizers of the road march stated that their movement is not limited to political opposition but is rooted in a commitment to protect Bangladesh's territorial and economic integrity. They plan to expand their protests nationwide if their demands are not met within the given timeframe.
