Dhaka, July 2 (V7N) — The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has decided to publicly clarify its position on state reform in response to recent “misleading propaganda” spread by several political parties. The party plans to hold a press conference soon to present its official stance and counter what it describes as attempts to confuse the public ahead of future elections.

The decision was made during a meeting of BNP’s highest policymaking body, the National Standing Committee, held Monday night at the party chairperson’s office in Gulshan, Dhaka. The meeting was chaired virtually by acting party chairman Tarique Rahman from London.

According to party sources, a draft of the written statement to be presented at the press conference is being prepared by Standing Committee members Nazrul Islam Khan, Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, and Salahuddin Ahmed.

During the meeting, committee members reviewed the latest dialogue held by the National Consensus Commission (NCC) on the issue of state reform. Senior BNP leaders reiterated that the party has long been a vocal advocate of structural reforms and had fully supported the interim government's initiatives in this regard.

BNP reminded that it had proactively presented a 31-point state reform proposal to the nation as early as 2022—well before many others began discussing the matter. However, party leaders expressed concern that recent comments and misinformation from rival political factions were spreading confusion among the public. They alleged that such tactics were part of a broader conspiracy to undermine BNP's credibility ahead of future elections.

The meeting was attended by BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and other senior leaders, including Dr. Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Barrister Jamiruddin Sircar, Mirza Abbas, Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, Dr. Abdul Moyeen Khan, Nazrul Islam Khan, Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, Salahuddin Ahmed, Begum Selima Rahman, Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku, Professor Dr. AZM Zahid Hossain, and Major (Retd.) Hafizuddin Ahmed.

BNP leadership stated that it would continue to engage in constructive dialogue to ensure inclusive reform and reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening democracy through structural transformation.
