Nilphamari, July 04 (V7N) – Jamaat-e-Islami’s central ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has said that the prevailing mob situation in the country makes it impossible to hold a fair election. He stressed the need for political reforms before any election can be credible and participatory.
Speaking to reporters at Saidpur Airport in Nilphamari on Friday morning (July 4), Dr. Shafiqur Rahman said, “A mob situation is prevailing in the country now. What kind of election is this situation? A fair election is not possible in this situation. We are always strongly opposed to mob politics. We have been saying this since 1972. We must first create an environment for elections. That is why we are talking about reforms. A good election is not possible without fundamental reforms.”
Referring to the recent violence in Patgram, Lalmonirhat, he said, “Patgram is before our eyes, this situation is prevailing in the country now. A fair election is not possible in this situation. We have proposed reforms to create a fair environment.”
On the question of the election process, he further emphasized, “Political reforms must be carried out before the election and a good and acceptable election must be organized with the participation of all.”
Later in the day, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman traveled to Rangpur to attend a major public meeting organized by Jamaat-e-Islami at 3 pm — the party’s largest gathering in Rangpur in 17 years.
