Rajshahi, Aug 31 (V7N) – The central and district offices of the Jatiya Party in Rajshahi city came under attack late Friday night. The incident occurred around midnight at Gonopara Mor, shortly after a protest march under the banner of the National Unity Against Fascism. The march was held in response to an alleged assault on Nurul Haq Nur, President of Gono Odhikar Parishad, in Dhaka’s Kakrail area.

According to eyewitnesses, the protest rally began at approximately 11:30 p.m. from Shaheb Bazar Zero Point in Rajshahi. The demonstration was led by Mobassher Ali, Chief Coordinator of the Nationalist Citizens’ Party (NCP) in Rajshahi. Several activists and supporters from various political organizations joined the procession.

During the march, protesters chanted slogans such as “Jatiya Party is autocratic, administration is their guard,” “JAPA will fall like others,” and “Why was my brother attacked? Cantonment must answer.” The demonstration concluded with a brief roadside assembly, where speakers accused members of the Jatiya Party, Awami League supporters, and security forces of attacking Gono Odhikar Parishad activists during preparations for a press conference in front of the Jatiya Party’s Kakrail office in Dhaka. They condemned what they described as state-backed political suppression, demanded the resignation of the Home Affairs Adviser, and urged an interim government to take legal action against those responsible.

As the rally reached Gonopara Mor, several individuals among the participants launched an attack on the Jatiya Party’s office. The entrance and interior furniture were vandalized, and photographs were taken outside and set on fire in the street.

Officer-in-Charge of Boalia Model Police Station, Abul Kalam Azad, confirmed that the attack, vandalism, and arson occurred before police arrived at the scene. He stated that an investigation is underway and that legal action will follow if formal complaints are filed.
