Dhaka, Sept 4 (V7N) — Islamic Charta Shibir’s Dhaka Metropolitan South unit organized a protest rally and gathering on Wednesday, condemning the extremist and violent slogans chanted by Charta Dal as well as the conspiracy to disrupt the Dhaka University Central Student Union (DUCSU) election. The demonstration began at Motijheel Shapla Chattar and proceeded to the northern gate of Baitul Mukarram Mosque.
Among the key leaders present were Sibtullah Sibga, Central Office Secretary of Islamic Charta Shibir; Mutasim Billah Shahedi, International Affairs Secretary; and Nazim Tajwar, Literature Secretary, alongside other leaders from the Dhaka Metropolitan South unit.
Sibtullah Sibga accused that four female students standing on the Islamic Charta Shibir panel have been targets of online bullying aimed at undermining their morale. He stated, “Within just a year, we have seen the change of the party behind such crimes. Earlier, these atrocities were committed by Charta League, now it is Charta Dal.” Sibga further criticized Charta Dal for chanting violent slogans like “Capture each Shibir member, slaughter them one by one,” questioning if such rhetoric is fitting for a civilized society. He warned that if any killings occur in the future, those chanting such slogans would be held responsible.
Referring to the DUCSU elections, Sibga alleged conspiracies to influence the judiciary, stating that protest programs were staged in front of courts to sway verdicts. “Some are deliberately trying to prevent the election,” he said. He urged university teachers, law enforcement, and conscientious citizens to support restoring order and establishing a model for a new Bangladesh through Dhaka University.
Mutasim Billah Shahedi, addressing the rally, expressed regret that despite the need for student-friendly politics, a faction is attempting to reintroduce the politics associated with Charta League’s controversial past. He criticized Charta Dal’s current approach as politics based on blame-shifting, which undermines efforts to create an education- and student-centric political environment on campus.
The protest highlighted concerns about rising political violence and called for peaceful, constructive student engagement ahead of the university elections.
