Dhaka, Sept 12 (V7N) – Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested 12 leaders and activists of the Awami League and its affiliate organizations on Thursday while they were preparing for a prohibited rally. The incident took place near the Technical Mor at Darussalam Police Station area.
 
According to a press release signed by DMP Deputy Commissioner of Media and Public Relations Muhammad Talebur Rahman, the arrested individuals were identified as: Md. Al Amin (32) from Boro Borai, Natore; Md. Sohag Majhi (38), Health and Population Secretary of Chandra Union, Chandpur Sadar; Md. Akkas Mia (52), Md. Nesher Mia (48), Md. Yusuf Ali (48), Md. Faruk Hossain (47), Md. Mokbul Mridha (54), Md. Manik Mia (38), Md. Shaheen (50), Md. Naeem (25), Md. Emdadul Haq (37), and Md. Abdul Alim (22).
 
The release stated that around 3:40 p.m., the banned party members were preparing for a sudden rally when a police patrol, responding promptly, reached the scene. With assistance from local residents, police managed to arrest 12 individuals immediately, while others fled upon noticing the police presence.
 
Authorities confirmed that legal action is underway against the detained leaders and activists.
 
This arrest reflects the law enforcement’s strict enforcement of the ban on unauthorized political activities in the capital.
