Dhaka, Oct 9 (V7N) – Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Chairperson and former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia visited the mausoleum of the party’s founder and former President Shaheed Ziaur Rahman at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar late Wednesday night.

According to BNP Standing Committee member and Khaleda Zia’s personal physician, Professor Dr. A.Z.M. Zahid Hossain, the visit was confirmed by Shairul Kabir Khan, a member of the BNP media cell. He stated that Khaleda Zia left her residence in Gulshan around 10:45 p.m. to pay her respects at her husband’s grave.

Upon arrival, she remained inside her vehicle and recited verses from the Holy Quran, offering prayers and a special munajat for the late President. BNP family convener Atikur Rahman Rumman said that the former premier arrived at the mausoleum at approximately 11 p.m. and departed for her Gulshan residence “Firoza” around 11:15 p.m.

This marked her first visit to the mausoleum since 2018, before she was imprisoned. Party leaders described the moment as “emotionally significant,” symbolizing her continued respect and devotion to the BNP’s founding leader.

Security was visibly heightened in the area during her visit, and local BNP leaders gathered nearby to pay tribute alongside her.
