Dhaka, Oct 21 (V7N) – Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has called on the interim government to ensure that minority communities in Bangladesh are not put at risk. He made the remarks during a press conference on Monday afternoon at the BNP Chairperson’s Gulshan office.
Speaking at the event, which was organized to mark the joining of 50 members of the Matua community, a Hindu sect, to BNP, Fakhrul Alamgir said that some foreign media and domestic actors are spreading false propaganda. “I appeal to the current government and law enforcement agencies not to endanger minority communities,” he stated.
He emphasized BNP’s commitment to inclusivity, saying, “We want to move forward embracing the legacies of 1971 and 2024. We have always stood beside you, we stand with you now, and we will continue to do so.”
Recalling Bangladesh’s shared struggles, he said, “Hindus, Muslims, Buddhists, and Christians fought together for nine months. I am a freedom fighter. No one’s contribution should be diminished. Attempts are being made to create divisions among people. On August 5, we envisioned a new Bangladesh, and we want to move forward together toward that dream.”
The press conference was attended by prominent Hindu leaders including Somnath De, Kapil Krishna Mondal, Somen Saha, and BNP Chairperson’s advisor and chairman of the Hindu-Buddhist-Christian Welfare Front, Bijon Kanti Sarkar.
Fakhrul Alamgir reiterated BNP’s pledge to protect minority rights and promote unity across all communities in Bangladesh.
