Dhaka, Dec 19 (V7N)- Angry protests have erupted in different parts of the country, including the capital Dhaka, following the news of the death of Sharif Osman bin Hadi, spokesperson of Inqilab Manch.

Since the afternoon, crowds have taken to the streets in several areas. Reports indicate incidents of arson and vandalism in some places. In Dhaka, the offices of Prothom Alo and The Daily Star came under attack. The Daily Star office was set on fire, and there were reports that several employees were trapped inside the building at the time of the incident. Fire service and law enforcement agencies rushed to the scene to bring the situation under control.

In response to the unfolding violence, National Citizens Party (NCP) Convener Nahid Islam called for restraint. In a post on his verified Facebook account, he urged people to continue protests in a peaceful and democratic manner.

“Everyone is requested to protest peacefully and democratically. Certain stubborn groups are attempting to divert the people’s movement in different directions. They are anti-July and their objectives are different,” he wrote.

Recently resigned Local Government Advisor Asif Mahmud Sajeeb Bhuiyan echoed a similar message in a Facebook post, distancing the July Movement from acts of violence.

“Hadi Bhai taught us to fight constructively—socially, culturally and politically. Fire and terrorism are not Hadi Bhai’s path,” he wrote.

He further said that those involved in arson are not part of the July Movement, calling them “planned conspirators” who have entered the protests to discredit the movement.

“We want unity, not division, for Hadi,” he added.

Meanwhile, the authorities are monitoring the situation closely. Law enforcement agencies have increased security at key installations and media offices as tension continues to prevail in several areas.
