Dhaka, Dec 29 (V7N) — Bangladesh Nationalist Party Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman on Sunday night visited Evercare Hospital in the capital to check on the condition of party chairperson and former prime minister Khaleda Zia, who is currently undergoing treatment.
Tarique Rahman arrived at Evercare Hospital around 11:00 pm. His visit came just days after his return to Bangladesh on December 25, marking his first homecoming in 17 years.
Khaleda Zia was admitted to Evercare Hospital in the Bashundhara area on November 23. On November 27, following the detection of a lung infection, she was shifted from a cabin to the Critical Care Unit as her condition deteriorated.
The 79-year-old former prime minister has been suffering from multiple complex and long-term health conditions, including liver and kidney complications, heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, arthritis, and infection-related issues.
According to members of the medical board overseeing her treatment, recent medical examinations revealed several serious complications. Her breathing difficulties worsened, oxygen levels in her blood dropped, and carbon dioxide levels increased, prompting intensified medical intervention. As her condition did not improve despite treatment, doctors placed her on elective ventilator support to allow her lungs and other vital organs to rest.
Hospital authorities said Khaleda Zia remains under close observation, while senior BNP leaders and supporters continue to express concern over her health.
