Dhaka, Dec 31 (V7N) — Work to prepare the grave for former Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia is currently underway. The grave is being dug next to the tomb of former President Ziaur Rahman, her late husband, and the work is expected to be completed overnight.
Salahuddin Ahmed, a member of the BNP Standing Committee, visited Zia Udyan on Tuesday night and confirmed the progress. He stated that the excavation is being conducted under the supervision of the Ministry of Public Works according to the design prepared by an architect. He added that after completing the grave, the entire area will later be redeveloped to enhance its aesthetic appeal.
The funeral prayer for Begum Khaleda Zia will be held on Wednesday, December 31, at 2:00 pm at the South Plaza of the National Parliament. The prayer will be led by the Khatib of the National Mosque. Following the Janazah, she will be buried with state honors beside the tomb of former President Ziaur Rahman.
Preparations are ongoing to ensure the burial and surrounding area are ready for the official state funeral, which is expected to be attended by party leaders, government officials, and citizens paying tribute to the former Prime Minister.
