Faridpur, Jan 10 (V7N) — Shama Obaid Islam, central committee organizing secretary of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and the party’s Faridpur-2 candidate, stressed that all prior sacrifices would be in vain if democracy and voting rights are not protected.
Addressing a prayer session held on Friday at the Kitta Abdur Rahman Hafizia Madrasa and orphanage grounds in Atghar Union, Saltha Upazila, the BNP leader highlighted the bloodshed of party members during last year’s July uprising. He recalled the abductions and killings over the past 17 years, citing the deaths of courageous figures like Abu Saeed and other patriotic citizens. He also mentioned the recent passing of Hadi, which has deeply affected party members and supporters.
Shama Obaid Islam urged party supporters to remain united in determining which political force will govern the country in the future. He requested everyone to maintain solidarity and pray for BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia, noting that Bangladesh will not see a leader like her again. “She has spent her entire life fighting for democracy. The people of Bangladesh will never forget her. She will live forever in the hearts of the people,” he said.
The event, organized by the Saltha Union BNP, was presided over by Saltha Upazila Jubo Dal leader Hasan Ashraf. Attendees included former Narayankanda Upazila BNP president Habibur Rahman Babul Talukder, general secretary Saifuzzaman Mukul, former Saltha Upazila chairman Md. Wahiduzzaman, vice chairman Asad Matubber, former Saltha Upazila BNP vice president Shahin Matubber, former Narayankanda Upazila BNP organizing secretary Shawkat Sharif, former joint general secretary of Saltha Upazila BNP Khandakar Azad, Shahinur Rahman, and numerous leaders and activists from BNP and its affiliated organizations.
