Dhaka, Jan 11 (V7N) — BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman will begin his campaign for the upcoming 13th National Assembly elections from Sylhet on January 22, the party’s Media Cell Convener Moudud Hossain Alamgir confirmed.

Speaking to the state-run news agency BSS, Alamgir said Tarique Rahman will start his visit by paying respects at the shrines of Hazrat Shahjalal (RA) and Hazrat Shahparan (RA) before formally launching his election campaign.

Following the shrine visits, the BNP chairman is scheduled to take part in roadshows and public meetings at various locations in Sylhet.

Addressing reporters at a hotel in Dhaka, Alamgir said, “The elections are approaching. From January 22, we will present our planned activities to the people.”

According to the Election Commission (EC) schedule, January 21 has been set for the allocation of election symbols, after which the official campaign period will begin on January 22.

After concluding his Sylhet programs, Tarique Rahman will continue his campaign by road toward Dhaka, stopping at several locations along the way. As part of the itinerary, he is expected to address a public meeting in Moulvibazar and participate in an election meeting in Srimangal.

Earlier, Tarique Rahman’s planned visit to North Bengal was postponed following a decision taken at a BNP Standing Committee meeting last week, in line with a request from the Election Commission.
