Dhaka, Jan 12 (V7N) — Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman on Monday said that the 11-party alliance is likely to reach a seat-sharing agreement within the next one or two days.
He made the remarks while briefing journalists after a meeting with a European Union (EU) delegation.
Emphasizing the need for political stability, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman said that stability is essential for the country’s progress. He reiterated that Jamaat is in favor of reforms, noting that the people of the country also want meaningful reforms.
“The judiciary must be fully independent, but there must also be accountability,” he said.
The Jamaat Ameer further stated that if Jamaat comes to power, it will maintain friendly relations with all peace-loving countries of the world.
He also expressed hope that the media will remain neutral and not act as a party mouthpiece. At the same time, he demanded the creation of a level playing field to ensure a fair and credible election.
