Dhaka, Jan 26 (V7N) — The High Court on Monday granted six-month bail to Jewel Hasan Saddam, president of Bagerhat Sadar Upazila of the banned organization Bangladesh Chhatra League, on humanitarian grounds.
The bail order was issued by a High Court bench comprising Justice JBM Hasan and Justice Aziz Ahmed Bhuiyan.
Advocate Sayeed Ahmed Raja represented Saddam during the hearing and confirmed that the court granted bail considering humanitarian aspects of the case.
According to court proceedings, on the evening of January 24, Saddam was allowed to see his deceased wife and nine-month-old son for the last time for only five minutes at the gate of Jessore Central Jail.
It was stated that his application for parole was not approved due to procedural complications, as the application was submitted to the Bagerhat authorities instead of the Jessore prison authorities. Eventually, the bodies of his wife and child were brought to the prison gate to allow the brief final viewing.
Police and family members believe that the incident occurred amid severe depression, during which his wife allegedly took her own life after killing their child.
