Dhaka, Feb 8 (V7N) — Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman on Saturday expressed deep shock and sorrow over the death of Ashraful, a participant in the July 2024 uprising, who died while undergoing treatment at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the National Institute of Neurosciences Hospital.

In a condolence message, Dr. Rahman said Ashraful sustained a gunshot wound to the head during the student-led mass uprising at Mirpur-10 on August 5, 2024.

He said Ashraful initially received treatment in Bangladesh and was later taken to Thailand for advanced medical care, where he remained in intensive care for around 14 months. After returning to Bangladesh on February 4 this year, he was again admitted to the ICU of the National Institute of Neurosciences Hospital, where he passed away this morning.

Expressing grief, Dr. Rahman said many participants of the July uprising are still undergoing treatment and continue to suffer from injuries sustained during the movement.

He described Ashraful as one of those who made significant sacrifices during the uprising, adding that the nation would remember such contributions with due respect.

Dr. Rahman prayed for the forgiveness of the deceased and conveyed condolences to Ashraful’s family, relatives and fellow activists.
