Thakurgaon, Feb 10 (V7N) — BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Tuesday said that although there were concerns due to the absence of elections for a long time, the overall election environment appears good and favorable so far.

He made the remarks while speaking to journalists at a briefing in his constituency in Thakurgaon on Tuesday morning (February 10).

Mirza Fakhrul said he does not see any scope for election engineering in the upcoming polls, noting that people are getting the opportunity to vote after a long gap. “After a long time, voters are being given the chance to exercise their voting rights. They should participate with enthusiasm,” he said.

Referring to past experiences, the BNP leader said that elections over the last 15 years had seen widespread irregularities, which naturally created apprehension among voters. However, he added that under the current circumstances, it does not appear that engineering will be effective.

He also commented on the role of government officials, saying that while some may hold political views, there is hope they will carry out their responsibilities in accordance with the law and established rules.

Speaking about the political landscape, Mirza Fakhrul said that noise tends to increase when new political parties emerge. He further described Jamaat-e-Islami as a tactical party, alleging that it often attempts to mislead people through various strategies.

Expressing confidence in his party’s prospects, the BNP Secretary General said he expects the BNP to secure a landslide victory in the election, including a win in his own constituency.
