Dhaka, Feb 14 (V7N) — Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Secretary General of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party, has hailed the outcome of the 13th parliamentary elections as a victory for liberal democracy and urged support for party chairman Tarique Rahman to help build a peaceful and independent Bangladesh.

Speaking at a formal post-election press briefing at the Intercontinental Hotel on Saturday (February 14) afternoon, Mirza Fakhrul praised the sacrifices of party members and citizens that paved the way for the electoral victory. He noted that approximately six million BNP leaders and workers have faced legal cases, 20,000 have been killed, and around 1,700 have disappeared over the years.

He also highlighted the martyrdom of about 2,000 students, women, and children during the protests of July and August 2012, stating that today’s victory is a debt to their sacrifices.

Mirza Fakhrul emphasized that under Tarique Rahman’s leadership, the party remains united, reflecting the aspirations of the nation’s 180 million people for development, political change, and national progress.

Calling the BNP’s absolute victory a turning point in the country’s political and geopolitical landscape, he said the win should not be seen as just a party victory but as a triumph for “liberal democracy.” He urged all citizens to join in nation-building, highlighting Tarique Rahman’s mantra: “Unity is our strength.”

Regarding future governance, Mirza Fakhrul said that Tarique Rahman has inspired the people of Bangladesh with a vision for a transformed, independent, and democratic nation. He expressed the party’s commitment to realizing this vision in the coming years.
