BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir urged the newly elected Indian government under Narendra Modi to emphasize democratic values in its bilateral relations with Bangladesh. Speaking at a discussion, Fakhrul emphasized the importance of democracy, independent judiciary, and fair elections, which the people of Bangladesh fought for during the Liberation War. He called for India to respect these aspirations in its dealings with Bangladesh. The discussion was held to mark the 43rd death anniversary of BNP founder Ziaur Rahman.
