Khulna, Feb 15 (V7N) — Mia Golam Parwar, Secretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, has alleged that the recent national elections were influenced by “mechanisms and tampering,” reflecting what he described as a widespread public perception.
He made the remarks while addressing a workers’ rally as chief guest in Fultala, Khulna, on Sunday.
Golam Parwar said public doubts about the credibility of the polls deepened after the election gazette was published the night following voting.
According to him, although voters supported change, “election-related engineering” has been a longstanding issue in the country’s electoral process.
He added that the 11-party electoral alliance, including Jamaat leadership, had submitted specific complaints regarding 32 constituencies to the Election Commission.
Highlighting the party’s performance, the Jamaat leader claimed that while the Bangladesh Nationalist Party secured more than 200 seats, Jamaat trailed by only 2.7 percentage points in vote share, indicating what he described as significant public support despite fewer seats.
Referring to post-poll incidents, Golam Parwar alleged attacks on party workers and supporters, including reports of homes being vandalized or set on fire in different parts of the country.
He expressed hope that Tarique Rahman would address the issue but warned that if the situation persists, Jamaat could take to the streets alongside supporters.
Despite the strong remarks, the Jamaat Secretary General urged party activists to remain patient for now, emphasizing the need to avoid further escalation while awaiting resolution of the disputes.
