Dhaka, Feb 15 (V7N) — The Election Commission has announced the official vote shares of political parties in the recently held 13th National Parliament elections, confirming a clear lead for the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP).

According to the EC’s public relations wing, BNP secured 49.97 percent of the total votes, while Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami received 31.76 percent.

The BNP-led alliance is set to form the government after winning 212 seats, while the 11-party alliance secured 77 seats, according to official results.

The Jatiya Nagorik Party (NCP), which won the third-highest number of seats among parties, obtained 3.05 percent of the votes.

Independent candidates, who captured seven seats, received 5.79 percent support nationwide.

Among other political groups:

  • Islami Andolan Bangladesh — 2.70 percent (257 candidates)

  • Gono Odhikar Parishad — 0.33 percent

  • Jatiya Party — 0.89 percent

Chief Election Commissioner AMM Nasir Uddin is scheduled to administer the oath to newly elected members of parliament on Tuesday morning.

Later in the afternoon, the Prime Minister and cabinet members will take their oath at the South Plaza of the National Parliament, with President Mohammed Shahabuddin administering the ceremony in accordance with constitutional provisions.

The 13th parliamentary elections were held last Thursday, and the EC published the official gazette of elected candidates on Friday night, finalizing the results.
