Dhaka, August 5 - Acting Chairperson of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), Tariq Rahman, addressed the nation in a video message following the resignation and departure of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Rahman urged the public to maintain calm and refrain from taking the law into their own hands during this critical transition period.

In his message, Rahman expressed satisfaction at the peaceful outcome of the recent events but emphasized the need for restraint. "Celebrate this joyous time of victory calmly," he said. "Please do not seek revenge or vengeance. Please don't take the law into your own hands."

Rahman also stressed the importance of moving towards a democratic solution, calling for a swift organization of a free, fair, and impartial election. "To reach the ultimate goal of the people's historic revolution, power must be transferred to representatives elected by the people as soon as possible," he stated.

BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, currently undergoing treatment at Evercare Hospital in Dhaka, echoed Rahman's call for peace. Through party representatives, she urged all citizens to remain calm and patient during this period of change. Party sources indicate that Khaleda Zia is expected to return home in a few days.

The BNP leadership's calls for calm come at a crucial juncture as the country navigates the aftermath of a significant political shift. The formation of an interim government, as announced by Chief of Army Staff General Waqar-uz-Zaman, is anticipated to pave the way for a new chapter in Bangladesh's political landscape.
