BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir stated on Monday that India cannot win the affection of the Bangladeshi people by providing refuge to Sheikh Hasina, whom he referred to as an "enemy" of Bangladesh who was forced to flee the country.
Speaking at a discussion meeting, Fakhrul urged the nation's citizens to fully support the interim government led by Professor Muhammad Yunus to help steer the country back on the right path.
"I want to make it clear that India cannot earn the love of the Bangladeshi people by sheltering the enemy of Bangladesh who was forced to escape from the country. I do not believe that will happen," Fakhrul said.
He emphasized that it is now the responsibility of BNP leaders and activists to patiently embrace the new chapter in the country’s history, ensuring that no one can diminish the victory achieved through a student-led mass movement.
Fakhrul accused the Awami League of conspiring from New Delhi to undermine the freedom gained by ousting the autocratic ruler Sheikh Hasina.
He warned that those engaging in activities to overshadow the people's victory are not patriots but traitors. He called on BNP leaders and workers to resist and defeat them through continued struggle.
"The sons of Bangladesh brought about the country’s second independence by shedding their blood. We cannot allow this to be destroyed. One form of fascism has been removed; we must not allow a new form of fascism to take root. The Awami League is conspiring in Delhi to thwart this victory of the people," Fakhrul added.
The program was organized by the Abdus Salam Talukder Smrity Sangsad at the Jatiya Press Club to mark the 25th death anniversary of former BNP Secretary General Abdus Salam Talukder, who passed away on August 20, 1999, while en route to Singapore for medical treatment.
