Dhaka, Aug 29 (V7N): The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has officially withdrawn a case against BNP Standing Committee Member Mirza Abbas, along with two others, concerning alleged irregularities in plot allocation.

On Thursday, ACC Public Prosecutor Mir Ahmed Ali Salam submitted a petition for the case's withdrawal, which was subsequently approved by Judge Robiul Alam of Dhaka's Special Judge Court-4 following a hearing.

The other accused in the case were former BNP MP Ali Asgar Lobi and government official Mahfuzul Islam. Mirza Abbas's lawyer, Mahi Uddin Chowdhury, confirmed the withdrawal of the charges.

The case, originally filed in 2007, accused Mirza Abbas of improperly allocating 19.44 kathas of land in the Tejgaon Industrial Area to Pacific Chemicals during his tenure as Minister of Public Works in 2006. The charges alleged collusion between Abbas, Ali Asgar Lobi, and Mahfuzul Islam in this land allocation process.

The case was initially filed by then ACC Deputy Director Syed Iqbal Hossain at Shahbagh Police Station on July 15, 2007, with the court framing charges against the accused in February 2008, leading to the commencement of the trial.
