SYLHET, Feb (V7N) – Farmers across Sylhet division are currently busy cultivating Boro rice, with large-scale planting underway in Sylhet, Sunamganj and Moulvibazar districts amid favorable weather and adequate availability of agricultural inputs.

According to the Department of Agricultural Extension, the Boro cultivation target for the upazila this year has been set at 5,195 hectares, with nearly half of the target land already brought under cultivation.

In Moulvibazar district, farmers in all nine unions of the upazila are actively engaged in transplanting Boro seedlings in phases. The haor areas have also completed various preparations, allowing cultivation activities to progress at full pace.

Agriculture officials said that about 50 percent of the targeted land has already been cultivated, and the remaining planting process is expected to be completed within the next few weeks.

However, irrigation has emerged as a key concern for farmers in several remote areas. While many farmers are managing irrigation through their own pumps and alternative methods, water shortages are being reported in some locations.

Farmers said the weather remains favorable for cultivation, but inadequate water supply could negatively affect yield. They noted that ensuring sufficient irrigation could help exceed the cultivation target this season.

Kamalganj Upazila Agriculture Officer Jayanta Kumar Roy said farmers are receiving necessary guidance and technical support from the agriculture department to ensure smooth cultivation.

He added that efforts are underway in coordination with relevant authorities to address irrigation challenges and complete Boro cultivation within the scheduled timeframe.
