Dhaka, Oct 31 (V7N) — Sajib Wazed Joy, Chief Adviser of the interim government and son of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, sparked significant debate with a Facebook post Thursday morning, where he labeled Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus as the “biggest fascist” in Bangladesh. His remarks underscore escalating political tensions surrounding upcoming elections and issues of governance in the country.

In his verified post, Joy accused Yunus of engaging in “unelected and unconstitutional seizure of power.” He stated, "Muhammad Yunus is currently the biggest fascist in Bangladesh,” emphasizing that the Awami League, “Bangladesh's oldest, largest, and the leading party in the liberation war," would not be sidelined by external influences or individual viewpoints.

Earlier, Joy had also criticized Yunus's stance on media freedom, comparing the interim government led by Yunus to past military dictatorships in Bangladesh.

The exchange follows an interview given by Muhammad Yunus to the Financial Times, where he criticized the Awami League, calling it a “fascist party” that should not have a place in Bangladesh’s future. Yunus argued that the Awami League’s governance displayed traits of authoritarianism and suggested that the party’s future electoral participation should be determined by consensus among political parties.

These remarks have fueled a new wave of debate in Bangladesh's political landscape, highlighting deep divisions in the lead-up to the country’s next elections.
